President Ashraf Ghani met Chinese President Xi Jinping on margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana capital of Kazakhstan.

President Ashraf Ghani with a high level delegation has arrived in Astana  to attend the (SCO) summit, a statement from Presidential Palace said today.

President Xi stressed that the bilateral ties between the two countries have grown in a positive direction, with deepened cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

China will continue to support Afghanistan’s peace and reconstruction process and play a more important role in promoting policy coordination, connectivity, and trade in the country, Xi added.

The spokesman of Afghan Presidential Palace, Dawa Khan Mina Pal said, “one of the aims of President’s attendance in Shanghai summit is to set and manage relations with other countries and talks on political, economic, transit and security cooperation.”

Afghan analysts describe President Ghani’s presence in Shanghai summit effective, but saying Afghans would not reach to any result until they have no peace among themselves.

The SCO summit is scheduled to take place on June 8, 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
