The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) is not against the rights of women as 150,000 females are working the health sector, Acting Public Health Minister Qalandar Ebad has said.

Speaking in an interview with Malaysian news channel Astro Awami, Ebad said that women are the main part of the society, without whom it is very difficult to run the society.

“150,000 females are working in the health sector so it is a huge number. You could never see this number in the previous administration. Many of the females who have experience in different areas, we give jobs to all of them in the health sector. We have institutes for nursing and midwifery and also for the postgraduation training programs. We are not against the rights of the women. Where we need women, we have opened the doors because women are the main part of our society. Without women it is very hard we can run our society,” Ebad said.

On the suspension of girls’ education above the sixth grade, the official said that IEA tries its best to create a safe environment for girls.

He said that there are about 200,000 female teachers who receive their salaries and are going to schools to teach girls.

Ebad also emphasized that IEA has fulfilled the international community’s conditions for recognition. He said that security prevails all over Afghanistan and people support the government.

“Without the acceptance of the people, I don’t think any government can run for a day or for a month,” he said.
