The Islamic Emirate’s supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has issued a decree ordering water catchment dams to be built in all districts of the country, with the first already under construction in Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province.

Kandahar officials said dams are being built in 19 districts in the province at a cost of three million afghanis each.

In total, dams will be built in 400 districts in the country – and will also cost three million afghanis each.

Officials said Shah Wali Kot dam will be a basic water reservoir that will measure 120 meters in length and will be eight meters high.

The residents of Shah Wali Kot district welcome the initiative and say that more projects should be implemented in this district.

Amid an ongoing drought, the Islamic Emirate has embarked on a countrywide project to manage water, from rain, including monsoon rains, and snow.
