A senior Iranian security official on Wednesday asked illegal immigrants to leave and return to their country in the next seven months.

According to IRNA news agency, Ahmad Reza Radan, Iran’s Law Enforcement commander, said that Iran’s policy calls for the return of all undocumented immigrants from the country.

This comes as most of the immigrants in Iran are from Afghanistan.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that in 2023, it recorded the return of nearly one million Afghan immigrants from Iran, of which 70 percent were undocumented.

Human rights groups have also reported cases of mistreatment of Afghan immigrants by Iranian authorities.

A video that went viral recently shows that an Afghan youth is violently arrested on a road by the Iranian police.

According to reports, the individual was injured in the neck and was taken to the hospital.
