Muttaqi meets UN envoy, calls for progress on easing financial sanctions
Muttaqi and Otunbayeva discussed the steps needed to be taken following the third Doha meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met on Thursday with the head of UNAMA, Roza Otunbayeva, calling for progress on easing financial sanctions and providing alternative livelihoods for opium farmers.
Easing sanctions on the banking sector and providing alternative livelihoods for the opium farmers were the major topics discussed by the Islamic Emirate officials at a recent international meeting on Afghanistan, led by the United Nations in the Qatari capital Doha.
Muttaqi and Otunbayeva discussed the steps needed to be taken following the third Doha meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Otunbayeva said that she will continue to closely work with the relevant institutions of of the Afghan government to follow up the Doha talks, according to the statement.
She added that it is necessary to hold awareness meetings with diplomatic circles in Kabul regarding the Doha meeting discussions.
The two sides also promised to jointly follow up the issues raised in the third Doha meeting.
