Security at this year’s Ashura ceremony ‘unprecedented’ across Afghanistan: Muttaqi
“From that day until today (the rise of Mullah Muhammad Omar), the measures that have been taken, the wisdom that has been used, Alhamdullah, the issue of Shia and Sunni has not been raised in Afghanistan,” stressed Muttaqi.
Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi says this year the Ashura ceremony was held under tight security and no incidents were reported.
Speaking at a gathering, Muttaqi said Thursday that there has never been issues between Sunni and Shia Muslims in Afghanistan since the time of the uprising of Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid, the first leader of the Islamic Emirate.
“From that day until today (the rise of Mullah Muhammad Omar), the measures that have been taken, the wisdom that has been used, Alhamdullah, the issue of Shia and Sunni has not been raised in Afghanistan,” stressed Muttaqi.
He added that during 20 years of occupation, the enemies failed to create discord between Sunni and Shias despite their efforts.
Muttaqi stated that neither Sunni nor Shia areas oppose the Islamic Emirate, but those who were “foreign mercenaries” opposed it.
