The United Kingdom’s ambassador to Kabul in an exclusive interview with Ariananews has expressed pessimism about the quadrilateral talks on Afghan peace process; citing the United Kingdom supports the Afghan peace process quadrilateral talks but in this distrust situation they cannot be optimistic about the talks.

“We strongly support the Afghan peace talks … we haven’t been asked to be part of it and that is fine. But we will use our influence to try to encourage both the government of Afghanistan and the government of Pakistan to trying create the conditions that will enable the direct talks with the Taliban. It is difficult to be optimistic at the moment, but it is an important effort by four countries together; therefore, it is something that we would want to support as the United Kingdom,” said Dominic Jermey, British ambassador to Afghanistan.

The British diplomat has also noted about the continued increase of corruption in Afghanistan and considered it detriment to Afghanistan and the donor countries.

“Corruption is a cancer in this country, as I remember President Ghani described it a “National Shame” when he and I were in a conference against corruption. The way that we look at this is that the government of Afghanistan has got interest in tackling corruption, the international community providing funding to this country and has got interest in corruption being tackled”.

We strongly support the announcement by the president of an anti corruption justice center that will look to produce effective legal cases prosecutions against some of the most gracious examples of corruption in this country. We want to support and work with Afghan government in fighting the corruption,”

Jermy stresses that corruption is not in interest of Afghanistan and certainly it is not in their interest and the international community; supporting Afghanistan.

It is scheduled that the Warsaw summit meeting of NATO heads to be held in 8th July of 2016 and NATO will announce its commitments about the continued assistance and cooperation with Afghanistan.
