On the second session of National Capacity Building held by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in cooperation of International Union of road transport and ECO, the participants discussed on the usage of provisions of United Nations convention for solving transport and transit problems.

Afghan businessmen claim they have many problems in field of transit and trade transfer with the neighboring countries.

Economic analysts are said to believe that using the provisions of UN conventions will help Afghan traders in Transit and transport sectors.

“We have many problems with the neighboring countries, due to transport problems we cannot exports goods to international markets,” Rahmuddin Hajji Agha, head of entrepreneurs board of the ministry of commerce said.

In the meantime, the minister of commerce and industry says that TIR, CMR and EDR conventions are working on national capacity building but Afghanistan does not profit from the membership of these conventions.

“One of the reasons that our trucks evacuate and re-loaded on the borders is the lack of using provisions of conventions and this is detriment to consumers,” Hamayoun Rasa, minister of commerce and industry said.

The ministry of transport and aviation also said that membership in the conventions can help the economic growth.

Much of the transportation infrastructure in Afghanistan has either been damaged or has deteriorated due to lack of regular maintenance over the last three decades.
