ACSEN criticize gov’t over negligence to requests
Afghanistan Civil Society Elections Network (ACSEN) contains of the Election Reforms Commission (ERC) and civil society institutions have criticized the National Unity Government (NUG) over its negligence to their requests.
The government submitted the electoral reforms to the next national assembly and nothing included from ERC’s requests in the current presidential decree.
A member of ERC has warned that if reforms not made, the upcoming elections would be full of organized fraud and irregularities.
“We have requested 7 persons for commissioners but the government made it nine persons. Without any reason they wait for the next national assembly,” said Saleh Muhammad Rigestani, member of ERC.
The civil society institutions are also said that appointing two chairmen of national assembly and chairman of the supreme court for the selecting committee is contrary to the constitution.
“Appointment of the new members for the selecting committee is contrary to the 152 article of the constitution,” Teymor Hekmatyar, member of ACSEN said.
The presidential citadel and the executive office have not commented regarding the issue so far but previously, the executive office has announced that the new commissioners will begin work in the nearest time.
