Afghan security forces have recaptured Qala-e Zal district of Kunduz province, a district that had fallen briefly to the Taliban one month ago, Ministry of Interior said on Monday, after many of people fled their homes in Afghanistan’s northeastern Kunduz Province.

In a statement released by the Afghan ministry of interior said that Taliban militants have suffered heavy causalities.

This comes as that the Qala-e Zal district which is in western part of the Kunduz province has fallen into Taliban’s hands one month ago.

The Taliban group has not made any comments regarding the issue so far.

Kunduz is one of the most volatile provinces in Afghanistan’s northern region.

The insurgents were also threatening areas near the provincial capital, Kunduz, on August 20.

Afghan security forces are fighting the Taliban in at least 15 out of its 34 provinces, according to the Defense Ministry.

The Taliban’s capture of Kunduz’s provincial capital in September 2015 was their biggest victory in 14 years, marking the first time since 2001 that the militant group had captured a major city in Afghanistan.
