Afghan Gov’t Calls for Removal of Hekmatyar’s Name from UN Black List
Gulbuddin’s special envoy, Karim Amin says President Ghani, Executive Officer, National Council officials and other authorities have seriously asked the UN delegation for the removal of Gulbuddin’s name and removal of sanctions.
“The removal of sanctions from Hezb-e Islami party is the responsibility of Afghan government based on the agreement signed between the two parties. We attended the meeting in coordination of the government and President, Chief Executive and other officials have seriously demanded the removal of sanctions,’ said Karim Amin, Gulbuddin’s special representative.
Amin noted that the officials request of the government only remains and if it submits, all sanctions will be removed up to ten days.
“We are waiting for the official request of the government that the sanction to be removed, but if there will be any complaint, it will be lasted two months,” Karim added.
Presidential Palace’s statement has not referred to the removal of Hekmatyar’s name but it has written that the government urges UN cooperation.
Ariananews tried to have a clear view of Presidential Palace regarding the issue but the president’s office rejected.
International relations analysts say the criminals histories and past are important in such processes. the only decision makers are not the government and the security council but the international court will also review the process of name’s removal.
Previously, legal experts said that removing the name of the Hizb-e-Islami’s leader from the UN’s blacklist following the signing of the peace agreement will take some time.
Peace agreement signed between the Afghan Government led peace process and the elusive leader of Hezb-e-Islami, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar last month.
A team was assigned to discuss the ways to help remove sanctions imposed on Hekmatyar as well as take away it from the UN blacklist.
The Afghan government has also asked the US for help to remove the group leader from the UN blacklist, with the US promising to investigate into the issue.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has said he would enter into one of the Kabul gates, when his name was removed from the UN blacklist.
The Hezb-e-Islami leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar was blacklisted by the UN Security Council in 2003, when it refused to agree on the US led coalition in war on the Taliban militants.
