Afghanistan is observing a day of national mourning following a suicide attack over a protest in Kabul on Saturday, that killed at least 80 people and injured 231 others.

The Islamic State has claimed the responsibility of the attack on the peaceful demonstration.

President Ashraf Ghani vowed to take revenge against those responsible.

“I promise you I will take revenge against the culprits,” Ghani said on a televised address to the nation.

The incident took place while thousands of demonstrators were protesting over a power line route.

Afghan security forces said on Saturday that the attack was planned and performed by a Daesh commander named Abo Ali in Achen district of Nangarhar where the group has a stronghold.
