Amensty report: Afghanistan human rights situation ‘disastrous’
Amnesty International considers the Human Rights situation in Afghanistan alarming.
Expressing concern on many governments brazenly breaking international law, the Amnesty International in its recent report called that insecurity has deteriorated the Afghanistan situation.
Amnesty International’s latest annual report paints a bleak picture of human rights around the world. The international organization has also criticized Europe’s handling of the refugee crisis.
Armed conflicts in those countries have killed thousands of people and driven millions from their homes, sparking a refugee crisis with global ramifications, Amnesty International says in report.
Amnesty Secretary General Salil Shetty said too many governments were using the threat of violence from armed groups as an excuse to “take short cuts on human rights”.
“The human rights of civilians cannot be sacrificed under some vague notions of combating terrorism,” he said.
“Human rights are a necessity, not an accessory … the stakes for humankind have never been higher.”
Amnesty’s annual review, which includes reports from 160 countries and territories, said there had been some gains for human rights last year.
The report has also added that journalists in Afghanistan still face violence by government and none-government actors.
This comes as the most of attacks against journalists and media employees have been occurred by government officials, particularly police and security institutions.
