Consultative Loya Jirga on Peace Postponed
The Consultative Loya Jirga, a traditional assembly on peace has been postponed due to the ongoing challenges in the winter season, the High Peace Council said on Sunday.
Sayed Ehsan Tahiry, spokesman of HPC said that all the necessary preparation has been taken for the Consultative Loya Jirga which will have representatives from all sects of the country.
But he said due to heavy snow and rainfalls which have challenged many people in the country, the committee which is responsible for convening the jirga has decided to postpone this traditional gathering.
The jirga was previously scheduled to held on March 17 in Kabul and continue for three days.
According to the officials, Consultative Loya Jirga was expected to determine the red lines for talks with the Taliban after detailed consultations. Between 2,000 to 4,000 delegates were expected to be invited from different parts of the country to attend the jirga.
