President Ashraf Ghani on Monday opened a four-day Consultative Loya Jirga on Peace.

Speaking at the beginning of the event, Muhammad Umar Daudzai, the Chief Organizer of the Jirga said that more than 3,200 participants have attended the event.

Daudzai added that at least one representative from every district of Afghanistan is invited and attended at the Jirga. In addition, he thanked Taliban for allowing people to attend the meeting in Kabul. He also said that delegates from Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan are among the participants.

President Ghani told the gathering that they will determine the direction of the peace process.

“We want to specify the main lines for the negotiations with the Taliban,” Ghani said to the attendants,” we want clear advice from all of you.”

A large number of Afghan politicians including Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah have boycotted the Jirga, saying it serves personal purposes of President Ghani.

Referring to his critics, Ghani emphasized on unity and said that he doesn’t want to use the Jirga as a platform for his electoral campaign, adding let’s sacrifice small interests for big interests.

Meanwhile, Ghani introduced former Jihadi Leader Abdul Rab Rasool Sayaf as the Chairman of the Loya Jirga.
