Gov’t Failed to Ensure Security for Correspondents in Afghanistan: MPs

The lower house of the Parliament administrative delegation members have accused the Government for not ensuring security and safety of the correspondents and journalists throughout the country, saying losing of Ariana News correspondent Nimatullah Zaheer is a huge loss for Afghanistan media.

The secretariat of the lower house of the Parliament has insisted that freedom of speech is one of the big achievements and Government is responsible for protecting journalists and correspondents in Afghanistan.

First Secretariat of the lower house Urfanullah Urfan said, “I share my feelings and condolence with the family members of Ariana News correspondent martyred Nimatullah Zaheer, unfortunately no one is safe here in Afghanistan, specially the correspondents and journalists are facing serious threats, Government must protect the life and properties of the journalists and media.”

“All parties at War should consider seriously the life of correspondents; Government should launch necessary measurements to protect the journalist’s life at all cost.” Law maker Farhad Azimi said.

Meanwhile representative of Kunar in Parliament Saleh Mohammad Saleh said, “Government of Afghanistan in order to help and improve the media role, should ensure security and safety for journalists and correspondents, and one clear policy should be launched for further protection.”

The members of the house have insisted one of the major sources which reflect the facts and reality of the society is media and correspondents, therefore necessary measurements should be adopted to protect the achievements.

Ariana News Local reporter for Helmand Nimatullah Zaheer was martyred in roadside bomb explosion at Godar area of second police precinct of Lashkargah city of Helmand province on Friday morning while he was on his way to collect reports, his dead body was brought to Kabul and then buried at ancestor’s cemetery of Sayed Abaad district of Wardak province on Saturday noon.
