IEC members try to prevent adjustment in jurisdictions, formation law of electoral commissions
Head of Wolesi Jirga’s legal and judicial commission says that members of election commissions are trying to prevent adjustment in the jurisdiction and formation law of electoral commissions.
Muhammad Abda, Head of Wolesi Jirga’s legal and judicial commission said, “Members of the election commission are trying to prevent the law with their campaigns in the National Assembly. They have said to the lawyers if they cooperate, they will be a guaranteed lawyer in the next election”.
The controversies and problems of the last presidential election prompted the Parliament to impose amendments in the law, formation, duties and authorities of the election commissions.
But commissioners in election commissions are said to consider these statements unfounded, saying the Wolesi Jirga is acting contrary to the constitutions.
Commissioner to the independent election commission, Sharifa Zarmati said, “Commissioners are not coming to parliament to campaign. The House of representatives should respect the law, they cannot impose amendments in election law in the last year. Their decisions are not acceptable for us.”
Earlier, the House of representatives approved that the jurisdiction and formation law of an electoral commission scheme to be discussed in a joint session that the differences solve.
The independent election commission (IEC) said that they fully prepared to hold the parliamentary election if the security and budgetary problems solved.
