NUG Announces Readiness for Brussels Summit

Afghan foreign, finance, refugee ministers and President’s adviser who attended the public hearing in the lower-house of parliament on Sunday, clarified about preparations that were taken for the Brussels summit.

The finance minister says that the International Community will be committed to assist more than $ 3 billion and 500 million to Afghanistan annually in the Brussels summit.

Eklil Hakimi, finance minister has declared that the National Unity Government (NUG) has taken all preparations for the Brussels summit and Afghanistan will receive new and fresh commitments in the Brussels summit.

“Simultaneously with the announcement of the International Community’s assistance to Afghanistan, we expect more aids to be allocated to the country. We are attempting for a strong political and financial commitment to Afghanistan,” said Eklil Hakimi, finance minister.

In the meantime, the foreign minister, Salahuddin Rabani emphasized that if the government does not reach an agreement with the European countries about the voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees, most of the aids to Afghanistan would be questioning.

“If the government does not solve the problems of refugees, most of the aids to Afghanistan will be reduced. One of the main demands of the donor countries is also addressing the refugee problems,” said Salahuddin Rabani, foreign minister.

Minister of refugee and repatriation, Sayeed Hussain Alemi Balkhi also said, “Repeated negotiations were conducted with the European countries regarding the refugee issue. Afghanistan’s demand was always about the deportation of Afghan voluntarily refugees should be with dignity. We are obliged to defend the rights of our citizens in everywhere.”

The extraordinary session of the parliament was held due to the government’s request and the majority of parliament members’ votes to talk about the preparations that are taken for the Brussels summit.
