Pakistan’s role valuable in Afghan peace process: Eric Larsen
Simultaneously with the increase of insecurity and the terror groups spring offensives, a member of US parliament, Eric Larsen in an exclusive interview with Ariananews said that Pakistan has an important role in Afghanistan Peace process.
The US lawmaker emphasized that Taliban is the main threat for the Afghan government not the Islamic State or Daesh group; citing the Afghan government must seriously consider the Taliban’s threat.
“In my opinion, Taliban is the main threat for Afghanistan which stems from Haqqani Network. The Islamic State’s role is still relatively small but it is growing. I assure that Afghanistan understands that the United States seek to suppress the Daesh group in any area of the country,” said Eric Larsen, US MP.
Regarding the interventions of Pakistan and the terrorist safe havens in its soil, Larsen stated that Pakistan should respect the sovereignty of Afghanistan to be a good partner.
“Elements are within Pakistan Inter-Service Intelligence that support the armed Taliban group. The main problem is that a part of Pakistani army supports Taliban and it is an enough challenge. The Afghan government should not accuses Pakistan for all its problems and must manage parts of the problems itself,” Larsen added.
This comes as the US lawmaker considers Pakistan’s role essential for the Afghan Peace process.
