Russia continues to work on removing IEA from list of banned groups: Kabulov
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said recently that the IEA is the “real power” in Afghanistan and that their removal from Moscow’s list of banned organizations reflects “objective reality.”
Moscow is making progress on removing the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) from its list of banned groups, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said this week.
State news agency Tass reported Tuesday that when asked when the IEA would be removed from the list he answered: “When all procedures are completed. They are still going on.”
When asked whether the procedures are going well, he said: “Of course.”
In May, Kabulov said the delisting would enable Moscow to decide whether to recognize the IEA government.
“Without this [removal of the ban on the IEA], it will be premature to talk about recognition,” he said.
“Therefore, work on this issue continues. All considerations have been reported to the top leadership of Russia. We are waiting for a decision.”
