A number of Senate members on Sunday session seriously urged to investigate the rocket attack on a wedding ceremony on last Wednesday which killed more than 20 and injured about 50 others at Sangin district of Helmand province.

Shir Mohammad Akhundzada a member of the House said,” Unfortunately I can say that they have been very cruel, they have attacked on the wedding ceremony with rockets from three checkpoints which have killed and injured more than a hundred people”.

Mohammad Amin Safi another member of the House added,” Whoever has committed this incident must be arrested and prosecuted in a criminal court by the government”.

On the other hand a group of the Upper House – Meshrano Jirga members stated that the reason why we are asking the government to seriously investigate this issue is because there might be a plot behind this incident to defame Afghan Security forces.

Ali Akbar Jamshidi one of the Senators said,” the truth must be revealed, because currently it has been said that the rocket was fired by Afghan National Army, I do not want to defend the one who has committed this attack, but there might be a conspiracy to mobilize public opinion against ANA.

Two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were arrested over the attack and will be court-martialled and a delegation have also been appointed to investigate the case.

These statements comes after officials said that the soldiers have fired on insurgent shelters after being attacked by anti-government militant groups, but unluckily the rocket hit the wedding.

Yet it is not clear either it was an intentional attack or they have mistakenly fired the wedding while responding to anti-government armed militant groups.
