US F-16 crashes at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan

A US Air Force F-16 fighter jet has crashed at the Bagram Air Base outside Kabul, Afghanistan, says the Pentagon.

Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook says, the incident took place on Tuesday while the plane was taking off.

He added that the pilot was safely ejected and is being evaluated by medical personnel.

According to the reports the cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

The jet was part of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing of the US Air Force.

F-16 fighter jets have been deployed in Afghanistan since the beginning of the US-led military in 2001.
