Two children were killed and seven others injured after a residential wall collapsed in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, local authorities confirmed.

The incident took place in Hedayakhil village of Chaparhar district, according to Tayyeb Hamad, spokesperson for the Nangarhar police. He said members of a family were sitting next to a newly constructed wall when it gave way.

The wall had been hastily built and raised several meters in a single day, Hamad said adding that poor construction and structural weakness led to the collapse.

Security forces arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and transferred the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
