The Afghanistan government must soon determine the time of parliamentary election and the electoral reform commission should also begin to work before the month July, The Afghan Civil Society Election Network (ACSEN) said on Wednesday.

ACSEN says the government needs to find a legal way for the continuation of Wolesi Jirga work.

Concerns over the continued work of the parliament, upon completion of the legal period, government’s neglect on electoral reforms commission made ACSEN to suggest government extending the period of Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament in larger interest of the country.

“Without reforms holding any election would be challenging for Afghanistan and the time for holding parliamentary election must be specified as soon as possible.” Sidiqullah Tawhidi, member of ACSEN board said.

Meanwhile the members of Afghan Civil Society Election Network stressed on a wide reform in electoral institutions.

“Civil society observers should be allowed to monitor the functions of the electoral reforms Commission,” Fahim Sidiqi, member of ACSEN board said.

This comes as that earlier, President Ghani instructed the independent election commission to complete the time table for holding election in one week but ACSEN considers any decision of IEC challenging and alarming for upcoming elections.
