Afghan cricketer Ihsan Janat slapped with 5-year ban for violating anti-corruption codes
Janat, who has played three Tests, 16 ODIs, and one T20I for Afghanistan, has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years
Afghanistan cricketer Ihsanullah Janat has been slapped with a five-year ban by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) for breaching anti-corruption codes.
Janat, who has played three Tests, 16 ODIs, and one T20I for Afghanistan, has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years after being found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code duing the second edition of the Kabul Premier League (KPL).
According to a statement issued by ACB on Wednesday, the code involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match.
The 26-year-old has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities, ACB stated.
“In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities,” ACB said in their statement.
The ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has stated that three other players are also under suspicion for involvement in match-fixing, and investigations are being carried out. Decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt, the ACB said.
The cricket board also said that the ban imposed on Janat comes into immediate effect and will remain in place for the next five years.
The right-handed batter has scored 110 runs in Tests, 307 in ODIs, and 20 in T20Is.
His first international appearance came in the ODI format against Zimbabwe in February 2017. His Test debut came in March 2019 in the match against Ireland.
Janat’s only T20I appearance was against Zimbabwe in June 2022. This was also the last time he appeared on the international scene.
