Afghan security forces retreated from Ghormach district of Faryab to refresh themselves hence Taliban could seize the control of the district, local police chief claimed.

After heavy clashes across the country this is the first time an Afghan military commander claims their forces have retreated from a key district in Faryab to freshen up and replenish.

“We are fighting since eight days and after heavy clashes we retreated one to two kilometers to refresh our troops, currently the district building is empty, the government must seriously focus to the district otherwise a humanitarian disaster could happen,” Abdul Majeed Kailambafi, the district police chief said.

At the same time some members of Afghan parliament claims that collapse of districts is an ordinary issue for the government of Afghanistan anymore.

“Ghormach is under the threat since eight months and imaginary police still exists. The current forces are not enough. They haven’t received their salaries since four months. About hundred policemen have escaped to mountains,” MP Naqibullah Faiq who is the representative of northern Faryab province said Monday.

Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) does not have a clear answer, but emphasize that Afghan forces are fighting against terrorists seriously in their battlefields.

“Currently, our forces are fighting face to face with a high moral, they are conquering Taliban militants,” MoI spokesperson Sediq Sediqi said.

Earlier, First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum launched an operation in Faryab to wipe out the root of Taliban insurgents, but seems the Taliban fighters are still resisting widely in the province against the Afghan security forces.
