Afghan-Iran officials to form joint commission for Chabahr port
Afghanistan Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah in his visit from Chabahar port agreed with Iranian authorities to form a joint commission to find solutions for the usage of the port.
CEO is said to consider Chabahar port valuable for Afghanistan and the country has eager to invest in this sector.
According to Afghan and Iranian officials, the Chahbahar port is the only option for Afghanistan to reach the sea.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have also committed to create facilities for Afghan investors to encourage them for further investments.
Access to Afghanistan’s Garland Highway can be made from Chahbahar port using the existing Iranian road network and the Zaranj-Delaram road, constructed by India in 2009.
The Port of Chabahar is a seaport in Chah Bahar in southeastern Iran. Its location lies in the Gulf of Oman and is the only Iranian port with direct access to the ocean.
The port was partially built by India in the 1990s to provide access to Afghanistan and Central Asia, by passing Pakistan.
