Afghan women fear lack of women involvement in peace talks, worries that their rights, achievements to be negotiated away

A number of women’s rights activists and members of Afghan parliament (MPs) criticize on lack of women active involvement in peace talks with Taliban insurgents.

Women worries to lose the last 13 years achievements on democracy and the civil rights of women’s.

Kulalai Akbari, a member of the Senate House said,” we are worried, because we are in the dark, when any type of peace deal happens Afghan women must be informed that their rights and the recent achievements are observed”.

After the National Unity Government leaders stated that peace negotiations will be kicked off soon, there are different reactions on this topic.

Rubaba Parwani Darwish a member of the House of Representatives said,” I believe if the current peace talks eliminate women role it will devastate the country than the current ongoing war,” adding that “the women right must be observed as it is amended in the Afghan constitution”.

After peace negotiations confirmed, President Ghani started consultation meetings with political elders, Jahadi leaders and active political parties in Afghanistan.

Women have frozen out of peace talks and worries about losing gains achieved since fall of the Taliban has been increased though the government of Afghanistan has promised to keep the last 13 years achievements during peace negotiations.
