Afghanistan rocked by 6.2 magnitude earthquake
A high-intensity earthquake struck the Hindukush region in Afghanistan on Monday, tremors of which were felt in several parts of North India including Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 hit Afghanistan at around 3.35 p.m.
The earthquake was felt across South Asia, shaking the ground in Kabul, Islamabad and New Delhi.
The epicenter of the magnitude 6 quake was 88 kilometers (54.68 miles) from Feyzabad in Afghanistan, at a depth of 209 kilometers (129.87 miles).
A 5.6-magnitude quake in eastern Afghanistan in 2013 killed 13 people and flattened scores of homes.
Afghanistan is frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which lies near the junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
