Afghanistan’s judoka Samim Faizad loses to Austrian opponent
Afghanistan’s judoka Mohammad Samim Faizad was defeated by his Austrian opponent, Wachid Borchashvili, in Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
Faizad competed in the under 81 kg category and faced Borchashvili in four rounds.
In the final round, Faizad suffered a leg injury and was defeated by an ippon. Borchashvili ultimately won the match with 11 points.
Despite the loss, Faizad expressed pride in participating in the Olympics, calling it a great achievement. He remains hopeful for better results in future competitions.
Afghanistan is represented at the Paris Olympics by Fahim Anwari in swimming, Kimia Yousufi in women’s athletics, Mohammad Samim Faizad in judo, Fariba Hashemi in cycling, Shah Mahmood Noorzehi in men’s athletics, and Yulduz Hashemi in cycling.
Additionally, five other Afghan athletes are participating as part of the International Olympic Committee’s Refugee Team.
Sibghatullah Arab and Nigara Shaheen, Afghan judokas competing as part of the Refugee Olympic Team, were both defeated by their opponents in the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
Arab, 23, competed in the under 81 kg category and lost to Matthias Casse of Belgium with a score of 11-1.
In the women’s category, Nigara Shaheen was defeated by Mexico’s Prisca Awiti Alcaraz. Shahin, competing in the under 63 kg category, was eliminated in the first round.
