Car Bomb targets Helmand provincial officials killing 7, injuring at least 21

A heavy car bomb explosion rocked Lashkargah district of southern Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Preliminary reports suggest that a car full of IEDs exploded near the governor’s office early on Wednesday morning which killed and injured dozens of civilians and governmental officials.

Provincial Emergency Hospital says they have received 7 death bodies and another 21 people who were severely injured.

Mohammad Jan Rasulyar deputy provincial governor confirms the attacks saying dozens were killed and injured including Omar Zwak provincial governor spokesman, district governor of Nad Ali, acting-head of agriculture department, ex-district governor of Gerishk and many other governmental officials.

No one yet to claim the responsibility of the attack.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts and the Afghan security forces have launched a vast clearance operation against the anti-government groups under the name of Zulfiqar recently.
