Chromite reserves, estimated at around 13,000 tons, have been found in Daman district of southern Kandahar province.

Local officials said that exploration work is ongoing at the site of the mine.

“It is in the exploration stage. It is being done to determine the size of the chromite mine,” said Abdul Hanan Hamidi, provincial director of mines in Kandahar.

According to the official, the mine is estimated to have 13,000 tons of chromite.

Hundreds of people are expected to be provided with jobs at the mine once extraction begins.

“Currently, there are 27 people working in the exploration phase. Once extraction begins, hundreds may get employed,” said Sebghatullah, head of the exploration company.
