Construction projects in Afghanistan have decreased compared to the previous year, said officials in the Union of Construction Companies.

Officials say that the unsigned security agreement between Kabul and Washington and the general insecurity in the country have caused the construction industry to witness a decline in the current year.

Some industrialists also consider the elections progressing to the second round as a cause for a general slump in construction across the country.

Members of Parliament have said that the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan have caused many in the construction industry to adopt a cautious approach in the light of uncertain security conditions.

However, most in the industry say they are awaiting clarity on the fate of the security accord and for the new President to usher in better investment conditions.
