Development of Kabul’s Shahr-e-Now Park gets underway
Kabul’s 9.9 hectare greenbelt, in the heart of the city, is set to change considerably over the next three years after work started Sunday on a major development project.
Work on the Shahr-e-Now Park project officially got underway at an event attended by the economic deputy prime minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
Akhund said in a statement that the development plan consists of a number of suggestions including an underground business center, a business complex, a special business center for women, a futsal field, recreation centers, restaurants, a mosque, a swimming pool, and a vehicle parking.
The total cost of the development will be 1.2 billion AFN and will be covered by the private sector, he said. According to the statement, hundreds of job opportunities will be provided through this project.
A Boeing 737-300 cargo aircraft operated by Ariana Afghan Airlines arrived at Kabul International Airport on Monday.
According to the airline, the aircraft will be used to transport commercial goods on international routes and has a capacity of around 17 metric tons of cargo per flight.
Ariana said it has signed a one-year contract with UAE-based Air Charter Express to operate the cargo aircraft.
Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, head of Ariana Afghan Airlines, said the company is working to expand its air cargo network, to boost Afghan exports and to strengthen the country’s air transportation capacity.
He said the new cargo service will give Afghan traders an opportunity to transport their products to international markets more quickly, safely and at competitive rates.
Ariana said it aims to provide reliable and competitive air cargo services while strengthening Afghanistan’s connections with regional and international markets.

Afghanistan vows ‘appropriate response’ after Pakistani airstrikes in Kunar, Paktika
The Islamic Emirate spokesperson condemned the reported airstrikes, describing them as a continuation of what he called “crimes” against Afghan civilians.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) will deliver an “appropriate response” to recent Pakistani airstrikes in the eastern provinces of Kunar and Paktika, according to its spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.
In a statement, Mujahid said the airstrikes in Kunar killed three civilians — one woman and two men — and wounded four others, including two women and two men. He said all of the casualties were local residents.
Mujahid also said a residential house and a local shop were struck in Paktika. He said no casualties were reported in the Paktika incident.
The Islamic Emirate spokesperson condemned the reported airstrikes, describing them as a continuation of what he called “crimes” against Afghan civilians.
Mujahid further alleged that Pakistan’s military circle carried out the attacks to divert public attention from security problems inside Pakistan.
Security officials in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province say Pakistani military fighter jets carried out an airstrike on a camp housing earthquake victims in Nurgal district early Monday.
The strike reportedly took place at around 3 a.m., according to Farid Dehqan, spokesperson for the Kunar police.
Dehqan said the attack killed three civilians and injured four others.
