Fire razes market in Kabul, over $ 10 million in financial losses
It was reported that several shops were burnt down in a market in Mandawi area of Kabul and resulted nearly $ 10 million in financial losses to Afghan merchants.
Fire was cited in the market around 10:00 a.m. with balls of fire ascending into the air disrupting the peace of residents.
It was gathered that a suspect who entered to market may have caused the inferno as the fire started.
Shopkeepers watched helplessly as their goods and shops worth millions of dollar were destroyed by the fire.
Afghan officials, the police and others arrived the scene of the incident, few minutes after the disaster started to combat the fire.
Afghan merchants however could not state the cause of the fire but said to consider one of the main factors of increasing the fire was the late arrival of car fire in the incident area.
“The fire started at about 10:00 am, it occurred at the dried fruits market, the cause of the fire is still under investigation,” an official said.
It has been said that the market was full of dried fruits which were collected from different provinces of the country and were supposed to export to other countries.
