Flood affects Agriculture, Livestock in 12 provinces: MoAL

More than 9,000 acres of agricultural lands have been destroyed and about 8,000 livestock killed by floods during the last one week, officials have said.

Lutfullah Rashid, Spokesman for Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock said,” heavy rain falls in many provinces across the country have affected both financial losses to the farmers and benefits for crops”.

Annually floods washing thousands of houses and lands in some of provinces across the country. Especially formers complain about great losses they experience as a result of floods.

This year floods in Kabul, Parvan, Kapisa, Khowst, Balkh, He-rat, Badghes, Takhar, Baghlan, Nooristan, Badakhshan and Samangan provinces have destroyed nearly 1,705 acres of lands and 8,000 livestock has died which makes a loss of about $9 million to farmers.

Official says they cannot compensate the financial losses formers have experienced.

“Currently, we cannot compensate these damages, but Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock have specific plans to eradicate these challenges in the future in cooperation with other institutions,” Rashid added.

During the summer a number of districts are prone to floods mainly because of torrential rainfall, melting of snow and ice. Therefore; flood causes tremendous damages to houses, agriculture, standing crops and other infrastructures. Hundreds of house were damaged in many provinces especially in Baghlan and resulted the displacement of hundreds of families.
