Gailani appointed as chief of Afghan High Peace Council

Sayed Ahmad Gailani has been appointed as the new Chief of the Afghan High Peace Council, Javid Faisal, deputy spokesperson for the office of the Chief Executive of the country announced on Sunday.

According to Faisal the former Afghan Vice President Karim Khalili along with Habiba Sarabi, Mawlavi Khabir, Mawlavi Ata-Ul Rahman Salim, Haji Din Mohammad and Mawlavi Khadam have been appointed as deputies to the Chief of HPC.

Mohammad Ayoub Rafiqi has been appointed as the new Secretariat Chief of the peace council, Faisal added.

The new appointments comes after donors suspended financial aids to the Council.

The Afghanistan High Peace Council was formed by the former President Hamid Karzai in mid 2010 to provide a platform for reconciliation talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban group.
