Ghani: No evidence to show Mullah Akhtar Mansour is dead
President Ashraf Ghani said Monday that there is no evidence to indicate Taliban Leader, Mullah Akhtar Mansour is dead.
After trip to Europe, President Ghani in a press conference in Kabul said, “There is no evidence that shows Mullah Akhtar Mansour might have been killed. Any incident which occurs should be carefully studied.”
This comes as the Taliban group has also released an audio message Saturday it said was from leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, vehemently rejecting reports of his death in a firefight with his own commanders as “enemy propaganda”.
Multiple reports citing intelligence and insurgent sources had stated that Mansour was wounded or killed on Tuesday in a firefight at an insurgent gathering in Kuchlak.
President Ghani has also noted about Afghanistan’s clear policy against Pakistan; citing Afghanistan has always emphasized that Pakistan and Afghanistan are in proxy war in the past 14 years.
Ghani stated that the Peace Talks is open but the basic condition is to respect Afghanistan’s constitution.
He further added that he will attend the Heart of Asia summit with a clear position.
This comes as on the sidelines of SCO summit, Pakistani Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif at a meeting told to President Ghani that a warm welcome awaited him in Islamabad at the Heart of Asia meeting.
