MCIT concerns over increasing security threats
Afghanistan Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) on Tuesday expressed concern over increasing security threats.
MCIT acting minister, Baryalai Hesam said, “At least three hundred communication antenna destroyed by the armed oppositions of the government in the past three years and Telecommunications transmission parts faced problem due to lack of security on the route.”
Lack of working capacity in Afghanistan communication system was another issue that the communication acting minister pointed at.
Currently, five communication company are activating in the country that these networks are operating internet services to twenty two provinces of the country.
Communications in Afghanistan has dramatically increased since 2002, and has embarked on wireless companies, internet, radio stations and television channels.
In 2006, the Afghan Ministry of Communications has signed a US 64.5 million dollar agreement with a company (ZTE Corporation) on the establishment of a countrywide fibre optical cable network.
As of 2014, about 90% of the country’s population has access to communication services.
