MP Barikzai Assassinated in Kandahar

Obaidullah Barikzai, a member of parliament from Uruzgan province, was killed in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in southern Kandahar province on Saturday, an official confirmed. 

Barakzai was assassinated in Kandahar’s PD6 by unknown gunmen on Saturday afternoon.

The provincial governor’s spokesman confirmed the incident but did not provide further details.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban in a statement denied involvement in the incident.

Barikzai ran for October parliamentary elections from his native Uruzgan province.

He was a district governor in Uruzgan before securing a seat in the parliament.
