President Karzai’s term ends

According to the constitution, May 22 was the last working day of President Hamid Karzai’s term in office.
However, the 61st article of the Constitution allows the President to continue working till the election process is completed.
Attorney Nasrullah Stanikzai said, “As the election process is yet to be completed, President Karzai could continue in office”.
Electoral campaigning for the second round of the Presidential election began on May 22. But the people of Afghanistan may have to wait for up to 2 months before they witness the new President being sworn in.
