IECC Meeting Ends Without Agreement
The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC), held a meeting with the representatives of electoral tickets on Friday, with the objective f solving the electoral crisis. Zohra Bayan Shinwari the IECC chairperson, twice left the meeting but returned.
Ms. Shinwari said that over 4,500 complaints have been addressed so far by the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission.
However, CEO Abdullah Abdullah’s representative criticized the IEC and IECC for their alleged failure to consider CEO Abdullah’s concern over disputed votes. CEO Abdullah’s team has requested the invalidation of 300,000 disputed votes. Representatives from President Ashraf Ghani’s campaign team demanded the immediate announcement of the results.
This disagreement comes as the IEC members said that the vote counting for 27 provinces has been completed. Once permission for recounting the votes of the remaining seven provinces is granted, the preliminary results will be announced.
