A suicide car bombing struck the ministry of justice on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM, as the ministry’s employees were leaving work.

Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman of the interior ministry said, “at least six people were killed and 24 other were wounded in the incident.”

“The attack happened in the car park of the Justice Ministry when a car packed with explosives was detonated,” Sediqi added.

The Ministry of Justice building was damaged in the attack, and that a number of people had been taken to hospital.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Public Health, Ismail Kahossi, said a total of 42 people were taken to hospitals around the Afghan capital following the blast.

It was the fifth major attack to hit Kabul in just over two weeks, coinciding with a new offensive by Taliban insurgents across the country.

The blast sent a plume of black smoke billowing above the city and was strong enough to rattle windows several kilometres away in Kabul’s diplomatic district.
