At least 80 Afghan Local Police (ALP) have been besieged by Taliban militants in Khas Urozgan district of southern Urozgan province since five days, a local official said.

Dost Mohammad Nayab, provincial governor spokesman said, ALPs are surrounded in Sultan Nawa area in Khas Urozgan district since five days.

As a result of clashes with Taliban four local police have been killed and six others injured yet, he added.

According to Nayab it is difficult for Afghan ground forces to support the ALPs encircled by insurgents, officials in Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense have promised to break the surround, but they haven’t taken any action yet.

This comes as a week ago at least 142 policemen surrendered to Taliban militants following three days of gun battle in the restive Wardoj district of Badakhshan province.
