UN Responds to Kabul’s Complaints against Travel of Some Taliban Members: MoFA
UN has given a “positive” response to the Afghan government’s complaints against the travel of some Taliban members to the regional countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said Monday.
Kabul has earlier, lodged complaints against some Taliban members who are in the UN blacklist after the armed group met with Afghan politicians in Moscow on February 5 and announced a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
The Taliban had noted that in their meeting with Imran Khan, which was canceled later, they would discuss relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and issues pertaining to Afghan refugees and Afghan businessmen.
However, Sebghat Ahmadi, Spokesman of the Foreign Affairs said that the meeting was canceled after the Afghan government lodged two back-to-back complaints to the UN.
“No doubt that our complaints to the UN were effective and the meeting was canceled,” Ahmadi said.
Pointing towards Pakistan, the official stressed that no country is allowed to hold talks with Taliban about Afghanistan on behave of the Afghan government and that give official status to the armed group.
This comes as the UN office in Kabul has not yet commented in this regard.
