Afghan forces kill 12 Taliban in Farah

At least 12 Taliban were killed and 10 others were wounded in a clash between Afghan National army forces and the armed Taliban group in Farah province, security officials said.

Local sources in Farah said that the clash took place on Monday when the armed Taliban attacked to a national army convoy in Bala Bolok district of Farah province.

Muhammad Hanif Rezaie, spokesman of national army in Farah said, “12 Taliban including Taliban governor of Bala Bolok Mullah Iwaz Shiwani and its two local commanders were killed and another 10 were wounded.”

Rezai added that unfortunately two Afghan soldiers were killed and two others were injured in the clash.

He noted that the clash ended after a few hours and the armed Taliban were finally forced to escape.

The armed Taliban group confirmed their two commanders killed in Bala Bolok district.

Farah is one of the most insecure areas in the relatively peaceful west.

The province has a strategic position, bordering Iran, and the key Kandahar-Herat highway passes through Farah.
