Afghanistan cotton product reached to 2,000 tons per year

Cotton products in Helmand province reached to the level 2,000 tons annually, local officials said.
Muhammad Karim Atal, Head of provincial council in Helmand said that the government does not have any program for packaging and export of cotton so far.
He noted that the Bast Company should have reconstructed in the past few years for packaging cotton.
Cotton production in Afghanistan reached 350,000 mt on 188,700 hectares of land in 1983. In 2003, it is estimated that 30,000 mt of cotton was produced on 46,960 hectares. In the 1970s and 1980s, lint cotton was used by local textile mills and also exported in quantities that significantly contributed to foreign exchange earnings in Afghanistan.
