Secretary of State John Kerry made an unannounced visit Kabul on Thursday to press Afghanistan’s rival presidential candidates to form a government of national unity and rescue the political agreement.
John Kerry is urging Afghan politicians to accept the result of an internationally monitored audit so a new president can be inaugurated.
Meanwhile, Obama’s administration officials said, “We would like to see the president inaugurated and arriving at NATO as part of a government of national unity,”
More important, it would also require the two sides to resolve thorny power-sharing arrangements.
This is the second day of U.S Secretary of State John Kerry talks in Afghanistan aimed at preventing the fragile country from collapsing into political chaos after disputed elections.
