Officials in Chief Executive Office says that the President is going to issue a decree tomorrow inquiring formation of an electoral reform commission agreed on the power sharing deal.

Jandad Spinghar, Chairman of Afghanistan Election Watch Organization said,” We have directly contact officials in the National Unity Government and they both have confirmed that the President may issue a decree tomorrow or at the beginning of next week”.

Election observer organizations urges that the government must pay serious attention to decisions of the reform commission.

“We have three concern over this issue, first of all delays in formation of this commission will discredit this process, second concern is regarding the qualifications of the members of this commission which will not be able to tackle the challenges in electoral systems and the last concern is if the government does not support the commission recommendations and decisions it will be idle,” Spinghar said.

On the other hand, Yousuf Rasheed Chief Executive of Free & Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) says,” I hope they do not postpone their promise on this decree to future, because it violates the constitution of Afghanistan on Parliamentary elections”.

Fundamental reforms in electoral system was promised on the NUG power-sharing deal and both the international community and the civil society organizations are awaiting to see formation of this commission to avoid disputed elections in the future.
