Kabul, Washington Sign Security Agreement

The much-awaited proposed Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) has been finally signed between Kabul and Washington, a day after the oath-taking ceremony of the national unity government.

The important accord was signed Tuesday afternoon between US Ambassador to Afghanistan, James Cunningham and Afghan national security adviser, Muhammad Hanif Atmar.

The event was attended by the President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, chief executive Abdullah Abdullah, NATO and Afghan government officials.

President Ahmadzai praised the security treaty and stated all the Afghan homes would remain safe with the singing of this agreement.

He expressed this agreement would not only ensure Afghanistan’s stability abut also the regional stability.

The chief executive Abdullah Abdullah also welcomed the agreement between Kabul and Washington, saying it was a very important step to the country’s security stability.

Abdullah declared this agreement would not harm any regional country.

After signing the pact, US Ambassador James Cunningham said during his speech that the United States valued its relations with Afghanistan.

“We are interested to continued cooperation with the new President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and chief executive Abdullah Abdullah,” Cunningham stated.

He noted this agreement would ensure America’s long-term support of Afghanistan.
